Boys' Golf Team 2nd At Wabash Invite

The boys’ golf team traveled to Peru Municipal Golf course and split with Peru and North Miami.
Manchester shot a 172, while Peru ended the day with a 164, and North Miami finished with a 182.
Peru’s Terry Smith was medalist on the day, shooting a 36, good for one under par.
For the Squires, Kyle Lahman and Josh Troyer both shot 42 to lead the way.
Matt Budnik shot a 43, Scott Spaulding shot a 45, and Aaron Olinger shot a 48.
“We had some pretty good ball striking today,” coach Gary Goshert said. “Some sketchy putting and a few penalty strokes kept us from upsetting a good Peru team. We did show some improvement as we head head into the last part of the season.”
The JV team lost to Peru 185-198.
Tyler Watson led the Squires with a 45, Josh Hanback shot a 50, Kyle McLaughlin shot 51, Aaron Johnson shot 52, Devon Simmons shot 54, and Calvin Barnett shot 57.
Wabash Invitational
The MHS boys’ golf team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday at the Wabash Invitational held at Honeywell.
The Squires finished second with a 333, behind Southwood, who shot a 321. Northfield was third with a 337, and Elwood was fourth with a 349. Lewis Cass was fifth with a 362, Blackford was sixth with a 365, Wabash was seventh with a 369, and Caston was eighth with a 388.
Matt Budnik led the Squires with a 39-40-79. Josh Troyer was right behind him with a 40-41-81. Kyle Lahman shot a 41-44-85, Scott Spaulding shot a 46-42-88, and Aaron Olinger shot a 47-44-91.
“This was our best score in an 18 hole invitational to this point in the season,” Goshert said. “The boys have done a nice job progressing throughout the season.”
The golf team will be in Warsaw for sectional at Stonehenge this Saturday, teeing off at 11:40 a.m.
