Boys' Golf Team Splits With Whitko, Northfield

The MHS boys’ golf team split in a three way match with Whitko and Northfield.
Whitko walked away with two wins with a score of 158. Manchester finished with a 171, while Northfield scored a 196.
Whitko’s Grant St. Claire won medalist honors with a 36. Matt Budnik was Manchester’s top golfer with a 38.
Manchester continued to struggle with consistent scoring. Scott Spaulding shot a 44, Josh Troyer and Devon Simmons both shot 45, while Kyle Lahman shot a 46, and Aaron Olinger added a 50.
“We need to get more scores that are in the high 30s and low 40s in order for us to compete with the better teams,” Manchester coach Gary Goshert said.
Manchester’s JV team scored a 216.
Tyler Watson led the way with a 47. Josh Hanback and Aaron Johnson both shot 55, Calvin Barnett shot a 59, and Jacob Kincaid added a 64.
Northfield Invitational
The Squires finished sixth at the Northfield Invitational Saturday with a 343.
Floyd Central won with a 331, Fairfield was second with a 334, and Lafayette Harrison was third with a 325. Oak Hill was fourth with a 335, Peru was fifth with a 340, Southwood was seventh with a 345, Mississinewa was eighth with a 346, Heritage Christian was ninth with a 347, and Whitko was 10th with a 351.
Spaulding led the Squires with a 37-45-82, good for eighth overall on the day. Lahman shot a 45-41-86, Troyer shot a 43-43-86, Budnik shot a 43-46-89, and Simmons shot a 53-54-107.
The golf team will host Rochester and Southwood on Wednesday, and will be at the TRC Tournament on Saturday.
