Amber Fratus decided to finish her final regular season game in style, pouring in 28 points and hauling in 13 rebounds to help the MHS girls’ basketball team hold off South Adams 54-44.
Fratus spread her points out, scoring eight in the first quarter, seven in the second, seven in the third, and six in the fourth.
“Amber played a great game,” head coach Mark Underwood said. “South Adams pressed us, and she is our person back on the press breaker. The rest of the team did a great job of breaking the press, and Amber was able to put the ball in the basket.”
Manchester actually trailed 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, but used a 16-6 second quarter to take a 26-17 halftime lead, and kept the Lady Starfires at bay in the second half.
Along with the big numbers from Fratus, Noelle Patrick had eight points and four rebounds, while Jessica Bedke had eight points and two rebounds. Katie Bowers had six points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals, and Becka Guthrie had four points, two rebounds, and two steals. Meika Kennedy added two rebounds and two steals.
The JV team ended its regular season with a 24-14 win over South Adams.
Malyssa Bedke had eight points, while Kaylee Watson had eight points and 10 rebounds.
“We played really hard, and it was a great way to end the season,” coach Janna Simcoe said.
The varsity team faces the winner of the Wabash-North Miami game this Friday at approximately 7:45 at the Wabash Sectional.
