Boys' Swim Team Beats Tippecanoe Valley

The MHS boys’ swim team lost its opening meet of the season to Huntington North 131-44.
Huntington North won all 12 events.
Finishing second was the 200 medley relay team of Andrew Asbury, Jacob Vogel, Collin Buzzard, and Ryan Henderson, the 200 free relay team of Henderson, Max Mattern, Grey Harris, and Buzzard (1:50.83), Harris in the 100 free (1:03.34), and Mattern in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.36).
Finishing third was Buzzard in the 200 free (2:16.94) and the 500 free (6:26.75), Henderson in the 100 butterfly (1:20.67), Mattern in the 100 free (1:05.62), and Vogel in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.14).
Coming in fourth place was Harris in the 200 free (2:19.68), Vogel in the 200 IM (2:57.80), Henderson in the 50 free (27.41), Tyler Manns in the 100 butterfly (1:56.41), and Asbury in the 100 backstroke (1:28.79).
“The team swam very well for it being their first meet of the season,” coach Taylor Clifford said. “This is a young team, so it will take awhile to figure out the best line up.”
Win Over Tippecanoe Valley
The boys’ team picked up its first win of the season, defeating Tippecanoe Valley 79-68.
Winning events for the Squires were the 100 medley relay team of Asbury, Vogel, Buzzard, and Henderson (2:03.75), the 200 free relay team of Henderson, Mattern, Harris, and Buzzard (1:50.79), Buzzard in the 200 free (2:11.78) and the 500 free (6:19.11), Henderson in the 100 butterfly (1:18.79), and Asbury in the 100 back (1:20.02).
Coming in second place was the 400 free relay team of Harris, Asbury, Vogel, and Mattern (4:20.49), Harris in the 200 IM (2:33.35) and the 100 free (1:02.64), Henderson in the 50 free (26.58), Vogel in the 100 butterfly (1:25.04), and Mattern in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.69).
Finishing in third place was Manns in the 200 free (3:11.71) and the 100 back (1:44.39), Asbury in the 50 free (27.11), Mattern in the 100 free (1:04.19), and Vogel in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.10).
“This was a much more competitive meet across the board,” Clifford said. “Their experience level was similar to ours, which created a lot of close, exciting races. I was happy to see the boys get a win.”
