The Manchester High School girls’ track team will be represented in six events at the Bremen Regionals. They finished fourth at the Rochester Sectional last week.
Plymouth won the sectional with 163.5 points, Culver Academies was second with 124, Culver Community was third with 79, Manchester was fourth with 63.5, Northfield was fifth with 50, Rochester was sixth with 41.5, Triton was seventh with 37, Tippecanoe Valley was eighth with 36.5, North Miami was ninth with 20, and Caston was eighth with 8.
Audrey Johnson, a state qualifier last year, won the 800m run with a time of 2:23.64, while Brit Sievers won the discus with a throw of 119’ 8”.
“Audrey is just a workhorse,” coach Julie Cassel said. “She deserves to go on.
“Brit didn’t throw well last year at sectional, so this is a bit of redemption for her.”
Mackenzie Coulter-Kern was second in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.61, and Andy Sharfman finished fourth in the 1600m run with a time of 5:51.39, good enough to advance to regionals.
The 1600m relay team of Addy Naragon, Coulter-Kern, Kari Miller, and Johnson also advanced to regional, finishing second with a time of 4:15.64.
The 3200m relay team of Johnson, Katelyn Wade, Jordian Wade, and Liza Terrill finished third with a time of 10:51.00.
“Our 1600m relay team is the fastest I have ever had,” Cassel said. “They are determined to get that school record. They go after it, even when they aren’t even pushed.
In the 100m dash, Katelyn Eberly was 14th (14.54), and Taylor Byers was 15th, 14.86);
In the 200m dash, Addy Naragon was 15th (31.26);
In the 1600m run, Sydni Terrill was sixth (5:56.36), but will advance to regional due to athletes scratching from the event.
In the 3200m run, Sharfman was sixth (12:55.54) and Sydni Terrill was seventh (12:56.80);
In the 100m hurdles, Gabi Nearing was 13th (19.48);
In the 300m hurdles, Nearing was 8th (56.28);
In the 400m relay, the team of Shea Rager, Kaytlyn Eberly, Taylor Byers, and Naragon was seventh (57.48);
In the high jump, Naragon was eighth (4’4”);
In the shot put, Sievers was eighth (30’ 1 1/2”);
In the discus, Morgan Ozenbaugh was fifth (90’11”).
“At this point, the coaching is done,” Cassel said. “We are behind the fence. We have to trust they are going to do their best, and they are doing it.”
The regional was completed Tuesday night. Look for results in next week’s issue of The News-Journal, or go to www.nmpaper.com.
