Girls' Swim Team Picks Up Win

The Manchester High School girls’ swim team lost a 110-67 decision to Huntington North to open its season.
Scarlett Melton and Catherine Chapman both won events for the Lady Squires.
“We really needed a meet to get things going,” head coach Kyle Wieland said. “We have been practicing for five weeks without a competition, and I could tell they were starting to get bored. It was good to have a meet.”
Melton won the 50 free with a time of 28.68, and Chapman won diving with a score of 130.15.
Coming in second place was the 200 medley relay team of Melton, Ashton Bradford, Leah McNeeley, and Amelia Flora (2:18.51), the 400 free relay team of Elizabeth Schilling, Shelby Minnix, Mackenzie Coulter-Kern, and Melton (4:36.39), Schilling in the 200 free (2:29.62) and the 100 free (1:07.72), Kaytlyn Eberly in the 50 free (29.11), and Cindi Myers in diving (117.90).
Third place results were McNeeley in the 200 IM (2:44.86), Minnix in the 100 free (1:07.82), Bradford in the 500 free (7:02.61) and the 100 breaststroke (1:27.47), the 200 free relay team of Flora, Eberly, Paige Woods, and Schilling (2:06.36), Melton in the 100 back (1:21.08), and the 400 free relay team of Eberly, Flora, Bradford, and McNeeley (4:45.64).
Coming in fourth place was the 200 medley relay team of Casey Brandenburg, Woods, Myers, and Kaity Clark (2:43.60), Coulter-Kern in the 200 free (2:32.33) and the 100 back (1:23.05), Eberly in the 500 free (7:15.18), the200 free relay teams of Brandenburg, Rager, Liza Terrill, and Marina Meinert (2:22.85), and Syndi Terrill, Kierston Ridenour, Taylor Byers, and Rebecca Ruppert (2:22.85).
Fifth place results were the 200 medley relay team of Liza Terrill, Sydni Terrill, Ridenour, and Meinert (2:50.90), Clark in the 50 free (37.07), and Minnix in the 100 back (1:23.83), and coming in sixth place was Chapman in the 200 free (2:55.83) and Meinert in the 100 breast (1:36.76).
“We had several girls competing in their first meet, and I was very surprised and proud of how well they did,” Wieland said. “We need our upperclassmen to carry this year’s team, but it will be the underclassmen who will determine the future of this program.”
Win over Tippecanoe Valley
The Lady Squires won eight of 12 events to pull out a 102-79 win over Tippecanoe Valley.
“I knew this was going to be a close meet, but the girls won the majority of the close races, and that made a big difference,” Wieland said.
Winning events were the 200 medley relay team of Melton, Bradford, Myers, and Flora (2:24.93), McNeeley in the200 IM (2:48.89) and the 100 butterfly (1:24.24), Melton in the 50 free (29.08) and the 100 back (1:20.94), Chapman in diving (132.15), Coulter-Kern in the 500 free (6:57.84), and the 400 free relay team of Schilling, Melton, Coulter-Kern, and Bradford.
Coming in second place was Eberly in the 200 free (29.68) and the 100 butterfly (1:26.81), Myers in diving (128.35), Schilling in the100 free (1:07.17), the 200 free relay team of Eberly, Coulter-Kern, McNeeley, and Schilling (2:00.95), Minnix in the 100 back (1:25.80), and Bradford in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.59).
Third place results were the 200 medley relay team of Liza Terrill, Meinert, Chapman, and Byers (2:38.53), Schilling in the 200 free (2:25.40), Minnix in the 100 free (1:08.50), Bradford in the 500 free (7:07.40), the 200 free relay team of Minnix, Flora, Chapman, and Woods (2:06.95), and the 400 free relay team of Woods, Flora, Eberly, and McNeeley.
Fourth place results were Coulter-Kern in the 200 free (2:32.18), and Meinert in the 100 breaststroke (1:35.71), fifth place finishes were the 200 medley relay team of Brandenburg, Rager, Ridenour, and Clark (2:43.34), Flora in the 50 free (31.02), Myers in the 100 butterfly (1:43.14), the 200 free relay team of Clark, Sydni Terrill, Byers, and Ridenour (2:24.83), Rager in the 100 breaststroke (1:43.48), and the 400 free relay team of Brandenburg, Sydni Terrill, Ridenour, and Ruppert.
The girls’ swim team will be at the Wawasee Invitational on Saturday, and will host Oak Hill on Monday, and will be at Northrop on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
